Scalextric Championship
Now every fourth race week for 2016
This series is run on the Parkway track. The track is 95ft (30 meters) long with four lanes. For those who have only raced on scalextric track at home this is a completely different challenge. The track which has a painted mdf surface is very smooth and pick up to the cars is provided by copper tape. The big difference is that Copper tape is not magnetic so the cars have to be controlled more precisely
The Cars
The cars used for this championship are any Hornby Scalextric car. To keep things simple for new racers the cars are run as standard however we do allow the tyres to be trued to help the cars run more smoothly. We have a tyre truer available free of charge so you can make your cars run better. We have members that will advise you what else can be done to improve cars though as explained for this series we try to keep cars very near to how they come out of the box.
Race Format
The club opens at 7pm and the track is available for practise until 8:00. We then have the curries and at about 8:30 the heats start. Each driver has four heats, one on each lane. The heats last for 3 minutes and the laps and parts of a lap are recorded. (the lap is divided into 10ths). After the heats the drivers are sorted into order based on their total for their four heats. The top two drivers go directly into the top final and the next two into the B final with the next two into the C final etc until there are 3 or 4 left in the bottom final. We then race the bottom final first and the top two in each final move up to the next final. We aim to finish all the finals by 10pm. Points are awarded for each round.
