Martin arrived for class 2, to make up 6 for the nights racing. Malcolm returned after a touch of the flu last week, along with the four from the week before.
Class 1—1/24th OG12
Chris T, the only person to use a Gp12, top qualified with 34. Graham qualified 2nd with a falcon recording 32, beating Chris A’s wasp 31. Malcolm and Mark using falcons qualified 4th and 5th respectively.
Malcolm beat Mark in the D final to meet Chris A in the C. Chris A, recorded 32 to beat Malcolm’s 31, after a close race, but Malcolm's falcon wasn't quite quick enough. Grahams falcon just about beat Chris A’s wasp to win the B final with Chris falling off in the last 20 seconds to let Graham past. Graham worked after 2 mins in the A final that he wouldn't catch Chris T’s Gp12, so retired. Chris T now with a free track set a new record and first of many sub 5 second laps.
Class 2—1/24th Sports
Martin arrived during the short A final of class 1 to make 6 for the segmented, and promptly recorded a 11.30 (top time of the year) as first qualifier. Chris T (with new tires from last week) recorded 11.10 to qualify second. Graham made up the top group with another 10.72 , the same as last week. Chris A recorded 10.68 with Malcolm 10.54. Mark did his normal tradition of having 1 off, to record 9.70. Malcolm won segment 1 with Chris A on the slower Red lane both recording 30’s. Mark didn't quite manage to hold to the leaders on and recorded 29. Segment two saw Chris A pass and pull away from Malcolm, Mark lost 5 laps after 30 seconds when his car died, he realised that his controller plug was loose and making no connection. Segment 3 saw Chris A record another 31. Malcolm recorded another 30 with Mark trying to catch back his lost laps with nearly 31 on red, his best run of the night. Chris A rounded off with a 30 on white to record 124.03, 3 laps down on the previous week, a bit different with 3 in a race. Malcolm finished just under 2 laps down on 122.09. Mark after his problems finished on 116, so was disappointed because the lost laps would have gave him his first 120+ score. With both Chris T and Martin hitting 11 laps in qualifying it would be interesting to see if they could match it in race pace and record a 132. After segment 1 neither driver was on for this. Chris T (32), lead Martin by 1 lap, after Martin had a few offs on Red, even though setting a new lap record on that lane. Graham had a slipping wheel and only managed a 29. Chris T, then managed a huge 32 on red, but Martin did 33 on blue, so were separated by half a lap. Graham had issues again with no grip to record 29 on his favoured yellow. Segment 3 saw Chris T and Martin both pick up the pace do 33’s with the advantage now up to 2/3lap. Graham recorded his third 29 of the night on white. Martin edged segment 4 beating Chris T’s score by 4 parts, but to many off caused martin to come second and record the first 130 of the year on 130.95. Chris T recorded the first 131 of the year on 131.58 to beat Martin by 63 parts. Graham had a nightmare run on Red, to record only 27, probably trying to watch the leaders race unfold, to not beat Marks score from the first group.
Chris T records another double, but was pushed all the way in segmented by Martin. Hopefully a full club next week with Dave and Brian back off holiday!
