February 14th 2011
Only 4 racers attended Valentine’s Day racing, Martin was working away with Malcolm missing from the previous week and James was on long weekend away. Brian and Dave still on holidays!
Class 1—1/32nd Sports
Graham and Chris T used their cars from the previous days racing at the Leicester area round. Chris T top qualified with 30.71, with Graham on 29. Chris A and Mark both did 26’s with Chris A, getting the bigger footage to take 3rd in qualifying. The C final saw mark drop into the wrong lane in the warm up, and trust it to be the only other lane in use! His car hit the wall quite hard. It made Graham jump anyway! After this it didn't seem to run the same. Chris A won the C final by nearly a lap to record his first 27 of the night. Graham beat Chris A by exactly a lap in the B final to meet Chris T in the A. Graham changed back to the tires he had used at Leicester for the final but now were to small even for 3 minutes. So after 18 laps retired to give Chris T an easy win, going onto record 29.96.

Class 2—1/24th Sports
Chris T hit the magic 11 laps again to top qualify. Graham and Chris A both recorded 10.72, but position was given to Chris A having recorded the faster single lap time. Mark had one off, so didn't quite reach the 10 lap barrier. With the ability to now choose start lanes, Graham started on white to record 31 laps, with Mark a couple of laps back on 29. Graham extended his lead with another 31 on red, with Mark on 30. So half way Graham was on 63 with Mark on 59. Graham speeded up in the second half, to slowly pull away from Mark. After segment 3, Graham lead 95 to Marks 89. Mark recorded 30 in the final run, but dropped about 70 parts short of the 120 laps. Graham finished on 126.83, 10 parts more than his previous week score. Chris T decided that his tires wouldn't manage to do the 12 minutes so put some bigger ones on. This proved fatal as they were too big and caused lots of offs. He only managed 29 in segment 1. Chris A recorded 31 on red to stand in good stead to beat Grahams score. Chris T problems continued through the 4 runs apart from run 4 where he put the small tires back on to get at least 1 good run and finished on nearly 33 on yellow, but still finished on 112.30. Chris A matched Grahams runs, even beating them to give him a narrow margin of 0.47 lap win.
So with his first win of the year, Chris A took the honours in segmented with Chris T making it 2 in 2 for 1/32 Sports. Hopefully a few more next week, but even with 4 we had a close nights racing!
