Dudley Slot Car Club

January 31st 2011

The penultimate week before Brian and Dave went on holiday Martin returned to the Club. Chris A, Chris T and Graham also arrived to make 6 for the nights racing.

Class 1—1/32nd Saloon

Graham’s car broke in practice with the ball bearing in the axle breaking and Martin not quite ready to race 1/32nd both sat out the first class, which left just 4. With each driver getting two heats, Brian top qualified with a 28.77. Chris T was second with a 28.68, using a falcon and rounding out the A final. Chris A recorded 27.82 to out qualify Dave for the B Final, both using Falcons

The B Final was a close race, for the first half of the race with Chris A slowly pulling away from Dave. Dave tried to speed up but fell off a few times to put him over a lap down with 30 seconds to go, and decided that he wasn’t going to catch up so retired on 25 laps. Chris A went onto record 27.11 to move up to yellow in the A. The A Final saw Brian shoot off into a early lead with hi GP12, closely followed by the 2 flacon runners. Brian came off on lap 2, to give Chris T about a 20ft lead, but was still in front of Chris A.  Brian tried to catch Chris T up to quick resulting in more offs, even though he was 2 tenths a lap faster, resulting in Brian retiring on lap 22. Chris T pulled just over a lap on Chris A, to make it Falcon 1 – 2.

Class 2—1/24th Sports

Everyone apart from Chris T, hit the 10 laps + in qualifying, with Chris T setting 11.18 to be he first to break 11 this year. Graham, Chris A. Brian had an off’s in qualifying so made up the B group. Graham and Brian recorded 31’s in segment one, with Chris A only managing a big 29 on the slower red lane.  Chris A recorded 31 in segment two, to pass Brian and put himself only half a lap down on Graham, who had now had red. Graham recorded a 32 on blue to open out a lead on Chris A who did another 31. Brian could on manage a 29 to fall of the pace of hi opening run. Into the final segment and Graham recorded a 31 to finish on a 126.06, 2 ½ laps up on Chris A on 123.45 Brian recorded another 29 to finish on 119.95 to average under the 10 laps a minute.

Into the A group, Dave recorded a 32 to lead from, Chris T who only recorded 31 in his first run, meaning Graham via the prognosis was ok for second. Martin recorded only 20 laps with a slipping wheel which continued through the whole run, to leave him 6th. Chris did 32 in segment 2 to pull back the difference of the first run and pushed on from there, with two more big 32's to beat Graham’s first run score by 2 ½ laps. Dave recorded 31’s in his next two runs so needed 31 in his final run on Red to beat Graham’s B heat score. The computer prognosis kept changing as the heat went on. Dave had a few wobbles on the last corner, but couldn’t quite keep pace to get the 31. He finished on 30.87 to miss Graham’s score by 19 parts. Martin recorded 108.49, but promised to be back next week for the challenge!

So a double win for and Chris T, with Martin back hopefully he can have a better week next week with his own cars! Dave and Brian now on holiday so hope to see James and Malcolm back next week!
