March 14th 2011
With James off to Dubai and Martin away with work it was good to see that Chris A and Malcolm returned. Along with five from the previous week to make 7 for the nights racing.
Class 1—1/32nd Sports
Everyone participated in 1/32nd Sports, so we had 5 heats and 3 finals. Chris T recorded the top time of 28.73 on red lane in heat 3, followed by Brian on 28.11 who rounded out the A final. 3rd with 27.72 was Dave and Graham rounded out the B final on 27.70. The C final saw Mark top qualify for with his personal best and first 27 in 1/32nd. Malcolm was 6th on 26 and Chris A was 7th on 25. The C final saw all 3 drivers lead at one point, Mark could quite match his heat score and came second in front of Chris A, both with 26's. Malcolm recorded his first 27 of the night by not falling out very much to progress to the B final to meet Dave and Graham. Malcolm struggled to match the B finalists pace and recorded only 25laps. One lap down on Dave. Graham recorded his first 28 of the night on his favoured yellow lane to join Chris T and Brian in the A final. This was the race of the night, Graham had an off on lap 3 to give Brian and Chris T about 1/4 lap advantage. Chris T then came off when he tried to go round the outside of Brian on the second corner. This Brian a healthy lead of the chasing 2. Chris seemed to drag Graham round and the soon caught Brian up, but Brian seemed to up his pace when the caught him up. Chris again tried to pass Brian on the second corner and this time it stuck, giving him the lead, closely followed by the other 2. This was it until about two laps to go when Brian dropped it on the first corner, to finish 3rd. The power went off on the main straight and Chris and Graham rolled down to the second corner, with Chris beating his dad by one part.

Class 2—1/24th Saloon
Dave and Brian both had offs in qualifying to record 9.52 and 9.95 respectively. Malcolm made up the C group by recording exactly 10 laps. Chris A and Mark both recorded 10.30 so seemed evenly matched, as you will see later. Graham recorded 10.51 and Chris T set the new qualifying top time of 10.95.
Malcolm seemed to be a bit of the pace and had all sorts of problems during the nights racing. He only recorded 87 laps over the 4 runs after numerous trips back to the box. After destruction derby last week Dave decided to rebuild his car and try a new motor! He started off with a 29, just behind Brian who recorded 30 on red. Brian had a few offs on blue to record only 28. Dave did 30 on white to move a lap in front. Dave did another 30 on Red to bring his score up to 90.76, Brian recorded 29 on yellow to give 88.54 giving Dave a 2 lap lead. The final run saw Dave record his worst run to finish on 119.96 just down on the 30 a run pace. Brian recorded 30 on white but wasn't enough to catch Dave and finish on 118.80.
With both Chris A and Mark recording 10.30 in qualifying this was going to be a close race!! Mark had the one and only off in the first segment to give Chris A a lead of 1/2lap, both recording 30's and on target to beat Dave. segment 2 saw both drivers record there best runs, with Mark recording 31.33 and Chris 31.30 (told you it would be close) so Mark closed by 3 foot! so both were on 61 at half way, a lap up on Dave's target. Mark caught and passed Chris A in segment 3 with a dive around the outside at the end of the straight only to fall of 2 corners later to give Chris the lead back. After 3 runs only 0.18 separated them going into the last run, with Chris A on 92.09 needing only 27.87 to beat Dave's score. Chris A now on white and running out of tires managed to hold on and record 30 on white to beat mark by 3/4 of a lap after he had a few offs on yellow lane. Mark again improved on last weeks score adding nearly a lap.
Graham recorded 31 in every one of his runs to beat Chris A's score by nearly 4 laps to finish second. Chris T on the other hand recorded 32's in all four runs and only with 2 offs was on target for a 130 lap total, he finished with 129.71 to set the best saloon time and 3rd best time all year.
So yet another double win for and Chris T with 2 records in the segmented, Hope to see all next week, with James and Martin we could have 9!
