Martin Ellis and Ross Grogan were miles quicker than everyone else in the heats of the Falcon class, but would not find it so easy in the final. Ross's body shell started tucking up repeatedly, necessitating a pit stop from which the back half of the body did not emerge. Meanwhile Martin pulled out a seemingly comfortable 2 lap lead with one minute to go, but then his car just stopped with one of the braids mysteriously missing. The marshal found an old braid after some scrabbling around and Martin was running again, but with Chris Thomas and Martin Jackson now within half a lap. Martin kept his composure (for a change, some might say!) and held his lead to the end. Chris's 2nd place was good enough to win the championship by 25 points from Martin Jackson with Martin Ellis third and Keith Charles 4th.
Martin Jackson was top Novice again, for the 6th time in the series, giving him a comfortable championship win. Christopher Green was 2nd Novice at the finals, allowing him to climb into 3rd in the championship just ahead of Andrew Hogg. Matthew Siddall was 2nd in the championship after finishing 3rd at the Finals.
In Super-Production, Shep top qualified and was soon leading the final. However Graeme Stevenson was giving him a very good run for his money and was only half a lap down with less than a minute to go. But Graeme came off and a clumsy marshal (OK it was me!) caused the body to tuck. Graeme's chance of a win was gone but he held on to 2nd place ahead of Steve Sargent. Jeff Norton scored a good 4th place in his only appearance of the season. You'll not be surprised that Shep won the championship, with Steve 2nd and David Sargent 3rd.
The team race was the most keenly contested championship going into the final round. Morecambe Security were leading on total points but Baby & the Lad were leading if you counted just the best 5 scores. Three other teams also still had a chance of winning. As it turned out, GSR Design led the race from start to finish, but did not affect the championship because they'd not raced in enough rounds. Baby & the Lad seemed to be doing just enough for 2nd in the race and 1st in the championship until their pinion melted off during the last segment! Very bad luck, but if the motor was that hot I guess it was about to cough anyway. This allowed Morecambe Security to take 2nd in the race and the championship win - well done Martin and Ernie! Laurel & Hardy were 3rd in the race and equal 2nd in the championship with Baby & the Lad.

Finally, no report of the BSL would be complete without mention of our Junior racers. Matthew Siddall was top Junior by a very small margin from Christopher Green, both in the top 3 of the Novice championship. There were also excellent performances from John Gooding, Katy Fawcett and Murray Wallace, all of whom would have finished higher up the championship if they'd been able to attend all the rounds. Watch out for all these names in future years!
P.S. A heart-felt thanks to Steve Sargent for all the time and effort he puts into organising the series. Also to Janet, David and all the Fylde guys, without whose support I'm sure Steve would say it wouldn't be possible.
