Pirelli - Round 8 - 28th Sept
The entry this year was well down on last years record, however the racing proved to be as close as ever. The tracks simple design allows most drivers to post a reasonable time but takes a very good driver to post an additional lap or so above the norm.
As usual the 1/32nd class got underway using the spreadsheet designed and kindly supplied by Chris Thomas.
Heat 1 saw a close win for Stephen Siddall from Alan Lucas but my choice of driver of the day, Martin Jackson added over a lap to their scores in Heat 2 with a 33.98 to improve on the Falcon track record set last year by David Sargent. This score remained fastest through to Heat 6 when beaten by Martin Ellis with 34.24. Heat 8 saw the first run for Paul “ the daddy” Shepherd and in usual form on this track, set the fastest overall time and a new open production record of 36.18, also beating the track record for G12 Saloon and 1/24th Falcon. The second and third runs saw the field bunch up around the 32/33 mark However in Heat 17 Martin Jackson completed his second full run of the session and improved to 34.61 and regained the track record for 1/32 Falcons. Sadly the home drivers were well beaten though the heats, a combination of no track time since the Fylde BSL, no car preparation and in my case poor driving were all too evident.

FINALS
1/32 Falcon Finals
The E final saw a well deserved win for Chris Green who could have had a good result in the D final which was won by Dave Homer (am I marshalling again). In the C final I finally woke up and posted the second best time of the day, too late again! The B finals produced a win for Stephen Siddall and the A final saw Martin Ellis getting the best of Martin Jackson again to take the win by just over ½ lap, with an equated time of 34.62 over 3 minutes which is record pace.
1/32 Open Finals
With 6 racers in the class there was only one safe bet for the win which as usual went to Shep, driving with his left hand , just because he could, to cruise to a safe 55 laps.

TEAM
1/24 Falcon Team Race
With the addition of Graham Stephenson a nice round dozen teams competed the 10 min segments. After the 1st round Morecambe Security held a slender lead from CMG Slots who were 1 lap up on SCD Roadhogs. At ½ distance with a second good run from Charlie Gooding CMG topped the results from Symbolics with Morecambe Security dropping to third. At ¾ distance yet another team in the form of SCD Roadhogs lead with Morecambe Security still in contension with CMG Slots dropping to third but only 5 laps down on the leaders. At full distance with an amendment to the computerised race sheet,(last run results typed in the wrong cells as a result of excitement/fatigue) the final top three turned out to be a win for Morecambe Security from SCD Roadhogs and third going to CMG Slots thanks to some very impressive driving from young John Gooding. The 3 min equated track record for the 1/24 Falcon team race was beaten 11 times during the afternoon but final honours went again to Shep beating his own record by nearly 2 laps to 37.48 only feet short of the current record set by myself with a wasp powered car.

Thanks as usual to everyone for their patience and good spirit, especially to Chris helping me out with race organisation and to Mr Green senior for the numerous marshalling stints and for organising of the team race cars. Also major thanks to Katy for the fabulous race control effort, although I suspect she was under strict orders from her Mum to look after me.
Wishing you all the best for a great Final
Regards,
Norman
