Finals - Lytham 28/29 Oct

Once again the finals were held at the  Lowther Pavillion.  However, thanks to some hectic last minute arrangements there was a change of track for the finals. This track had only become available shortly before the finals and Steve had to make arrangements to get it transported from Czech. Mick Langridge drove a van over to collect the track and had to drive for up to 15 hours in a day to get back in time. The track itself looks to have been very well made and went together much better than some other portable tracks. Once practice started it was very soon evident that the track was just as nice to drive on and many people commented on just how good this track is. The first event of the weekend was an enduro race for teams of three to five drivers with a choice of either Falcon or Group 12 powered 1/24th production cars. Fourteen teams entered with only four of the teams choosing to run Falcons. To keep the format simple the teams were divided into two groups of seven with all four falcons in the same group.

GSR Design set the pace in heat 1 with 138.12 laps on Orange lane with the Falcon powered Sith Lords team less than 10 laps back in second place. In heat two the other group of all group 12 car entered the competition. Again the heat was won on Orange lane, Fylde Raceway taking the overall lead with  150.37 laps. The Falcon powered Sith Lords won heat2. However their score of 125.16 laps was only good enough for eight place overall after heat 4. Harwood Racing 147.49 laps and Highland 1 with 150.62 laps moved into the top two places. Brian Saunders run for the Highland team on Purple lane was to be the best run of the day. The Highland 2 team followed their first teams example and won heat 5 with Sith Lords taking second place to increase their lead in the Falcon powered section to nearly 30 laps. Heat 6 was won by Harwood racing with their victory in this race moving them into an overall lead of 10 laps. In heat 7 GSR Design recorded the best run of round 4 to move themselves from 7th place up to 5th place overall. A very good run of 136.42 laps by Sith lords moved then up to 6th overall and also put them nearly 50 laps clear in the Falcon section. AB Slotsport moved into second place in Falcon just half a lap in front of Bolton. In heat 8 both Arra and Oaklands had car problems which saw them drop down the field.  GSR Design and Barnton  both topped 135 laps in heat 9 which was good enough to move GSR into third place overall. With Comfortably Numb hitting problems in heat 10 the Sith Lords now moved their Falcon powered car up into overall 5th place. However  Comfortably Numb won heat 12 with 134.57 laps to regain 5th place overall and Highland 1 regained third place from GSR Design. At the top of the table Harwood Racing increased their overall lead to 17 laps with Fylde in second place 13 laps ahead of Highland 1. In the penultimate round the significant movers were Comfortably numb whose 136.59 laps on white moved them from fifth to third place just 1.8 laps ahead of GSR Design. However the top two teams continued to secure their positions. Heat 15 was the last run for the Falcon powered teams and the Sith Lords team secured class victory by 63.49 laps from AB Slotsport and fifth place overall .With Comfortably Numb having a poor run in Heat16 they dropped down from third to 6th and it was GSR Design that took the last podium place from Highland 1. Harwood Racing eventually running out winners by over 25 laps from Fylde who were over 30 laps ahead of GSR.

With the days racing completed almost everyone made their way to the Italian restaurant for the evening meal. The restaurant was fairly busier and they did well to cater for such a large group with us all seated around the one very large table. News of Martin Jackson celebrating his 16th birthday had spread around the group which lead to a small presentation and a kiss from Sandy Parker. This was embarrassment enough for the lad but as Sandy returned to her seat Martin Ellis bounded down the room in the lads direction. I can confirm the Martin placed his hand in the way when he kissed his younger namesake but even so the lad was now turning a very bright red.
